Do day creams provide protection against harmful environmental factors?
Day creams are an indispensable part of many skincare routines, but can they do more than just moisturize? Every day our skin is exposed to a variety of external influences such as air pollution, UV rays and free radicals. These factors can damage and age the skin. We take a closer look at how day creams can also protect against harmful external influences.
Which influences can damage the skin?
To understand whether day creams actually protect, we must first consider the dangers our skin is exposed to on a daily basis. Harmful influences such as exhaust fumes and particulate matter, can deposit themselves on our skin. Tropospheric ozone is a mix of sunlight and chemicals emitted by cars, industry and plants, among others. As a result, the skin becomes suffocated, loses moisture and clogs pores, accelerating the skin's aging process. This can also lead to inflammation.
How do day creams contribute to skin protection?
The primary function of day creams is to moisturize the skin, but good products also provide protective effects. Antioxidants in day creams play an important role in neutralizing free radicals. Free radicals can break down collagen and elastin in the skin, leading to wrinkles and sagging.
By using a day cream with antioxidants, you can slow down this process and keep the skin young and supple for longer. There are also many other active substances that contribute to the protection of our skin from external harmful influences, just think of brown algae. Which accelerates the formation of chaperone proteins that are important for preparing and protecting the skin. And this action occurs only when needed. In other words, there is no unnecessary cell activity.
UV protection through day creams
In addition to antioxidants, many day creams also contain SPF, or Sun Protection Factor. UV radiation is responsible for much of skin aging. Sun exposure without protection can quickly lead to permanent damage. A day cream with SPF provides basic sun protection. However, if you plan to be outside for extended periods of time, it is wise to apply a separate sunscreen. This ensures optimal protection against the harmful effects of UV rays.
At Tinge, we chose to keep the UV protection in a separate mineral sunscreen so that the day cream doesn't have to sacrifice numerous other anti-aging and anti-pollution properties. After all, you can't endlessly add active ingredients. However, most day creams do not contain a high enough SPF factor. Also, people are generally less precise about applying their day cream correctly. As a result, the day cream is not going to provide enough sun protection. In addition, you may find your sunscreen then neatly apply as directed every two hours. On top of that, the Tinge sunscreen is enriched with additional nourishing ingredients such as aloe vera, panthenol, shea butter, astaxanthin and abyssinian oil so that even the sunscreen can be used alone.
Protection against air pollution and blue light
More and more day creams offer protection from modern problems, such as air pollution and blue light coming from digital screens. Urban pollution can weaken skin and lead to inflammation, pigmentation and accelerated aging.
Moreover, blue light is also being increasingly recognized as a factor that can accelerate skin aging. Although the long-term damage is still being studied, it is wise to use a day cream that also protects against this type of light, especially if you spend a lot of time behind a screen.
Tinge's day creams contain ingredients such as pomegranate extract and brown algae, which are known, among other things, for their protective effects against blue light. The effects of blue light are negated by their antioxidant effects.
